The honest MemberClicks alternative
MemberClicks is an association-management system, and for the operational side of a chamber or professional association it covers the ground: member records and directories, dues and renewals, event registration, a member website, and email to the list. Associations shopping for a MemberClicks alternative are usually not unhappy with the AMS. They are unhappy that membership is flat: prospects attend and don't join, and renewals lapse quietly.

What MemberClicks does well
Give it its due. MemberClicks (now part of Personify) is built for the association that has members to administer: a member database with custom fields, membership types and automated renewals, event registration and payments, a member portal and website, committee management, and broadcast email. For an association with staff and a few thousand members, it is a serious operations system.
If your bottleneck is the operations, MemberClicks, Wild Apricot or GrowthZone is the right category, and a follow-up layer does not replace it.
Details are from MemberClicks's public site and documentation as of September 2026. If something has changed, tell us and we will correct it.
The question a MemberClicks alternative should answer
Look at where membership actually leaks. A prospect comes to the annual conference on a guest pass, has a good conversation with the executive director, and gets the same generic "thanks for attending" email as 400 other people. A member's renewal lapses; the AMS sends three automated reminders and nobody calls. A committee chair who gave forty hours last year gets a certificate and no personal note.
None of that is a database problem. A broadcast email is not a follow-up to one person. Switching AMS platforms migrates the records and leaves the personal touch exactly as missing as it was.
The follow-up-first alternative
Capstone Outreach is built around one person at a time. The executive director scans the prospect's card at the conference, says what they talked about, and a personal follow-up drafts itself and sends from her own inbox the next morning. Lapsed members go on a keep-in-touch cadence with a personal check-in every quarter, written from the notes on them. Committee chairs and sponsors get a thank-you that reads like it was written for them, because it was. Every message is approved by a person before it sends.
The iPhone app handles the conference floor: scan cards, add voice notes, queue texts from staff's own numbers. It does not administer dues, run registration, or host the portal, and it does not try to.
MemberClicks vs. a follow-up-first layer
| Compared on | MemberClicks | Capstone Outreach |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Association-management system | Follow-up-first layer |
| Built around | Administering current members | Converting prospects, keeping members and volunteers warm |
| Member database, dues, renewals | Yes, core | No |
| Event registration, portal, website | Yes | No |
| Broadcast email | Yes | No: one-to-one only, from a person's own inbox |
| Prospect follow-up after an event | Generic post-event email | Drafted from the conversation; sent from a staff inbox after approval |
| Lapsed members, chairs, sponsors | Automated renewal reminders | Personal check-ins on a cadence, written from your notes |
| Field capture | Manual entry after the event | Card scan and voice notes on the floor |
| Works alongside | — | Yes: keep MemberClicks as the AMS |
You may not need to replace anything
Two tools, each doing its job. MemberClicks owns the records, the money, the events, and the broadcast. Capstone Outreach owns the personal conversations that grow membership: the note after the conference, the quarterly check-in with a lapsed member, the thank-you to a chair. Prospects who join are in MemberClicks; the follow-up layer is what turned them into members.
Keep MemberClicks as the AMS. Add the follow-up. Capstone Outreach drafts the message from the consult, the card, or the call, you approve it, and it sends from your own inbox or number. Keep-in-touch cadences handle the people who should hear from you every month.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best MemberClicks alternative?
For a like-for-like AMS, Wild Apricot (smaller associations) and GrowthZone (chambers) are the usual comparisons. If the problem is prospects who don't join and members who lapse without a personal touch, the alternative is a follow-up-first layer like Capstone Outreach beside the AMS you keep.
Can we keep MemberClicks and add Capstone Outreach?
Yes; that is the normal setup. MemberClicks administers members, dues, and events; Capstone handles the personal follow-up with prospects, lapsed members, chairs, and sponsors from staff's own inboxes and phones.
Does Capstone Outreach replace our AMS?
No. It does not do dues, registration, directories, or the portal. It captures people, drafts and sends one-to-one follow-ups after a person approves them, and runs keep-in-touch cadences.
How much does it cost?
$25 a month per user after a 14-day free trial, iPhone app included. Most associations run it for the one or two people who own relationships.
